Active Incident/Terror Response Training (1 day course)
Recent horrific events around the world remind us all of the terrorist threat we face. The current threat status in the UK is considered as ‘SEVERE’, meaning an attack is highly likely
With the threat level remaining at a high level, the police and security services continue to operate at a heightened state of readiness – the police are working on hundreds of investigations and making an arrest a day. However, no-one knows when or where the next terror incident will take place.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon on the 29th November 2015 warned that an attack similar to the atrocities in Paris on 13 November could "easily" happen in the UK.
Since the Paris attack on the 13th November 2015 the world has witnessed a number of terror attacks in Europe and the US.
There has been a bomb attack on Brussels airport in Zaventem and one at Maalbeek metro station in Brussels on the 22nd March 2016. On the 12th June 2016 a terror attack in Orlando Florida took place and was one of the largest mass shootings in US history. 49 People died and 53 people were injured.
Another took place on 29 June 2016 and consisting of a suicide bombing and shooting at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul where 44 people died and 239 people were injured. Finally, the most recent was a truck attack in Nice in which 84 people died and more than 200 were injured, some with life threatening injuries.
Terrorists target public places
The likely hood is that a terror attack will happen in a crowded area to get the most impact and devastation. As we have seen recently, the modus operandi can vary, a suicide bomber, active shooter, parcel bomb, car bomb or a large vehicle driven through a crowd, but the locations are likely to be similar.
- Bars, and Clubs
- Restaurants and Theatre’s
- Sports Arenas and Stadiums
- Places of Worship
- Shopping Centre’s
- Large Commercial Business’s
- Large Buildings
Most of us work in these areas and we can’t stop going to work.
So what can we do in the event of our workplace being the target of a Terror Attack?
The health and safety at work regulations place a legal responsibility on the owner or occupier of premises to have a ‘duty of care’ for staff and visitors. In the event of an incident, any subsequent inquiry or court proceeding will look for evidence that the relevant legislation was followed.
We recognise this can happen and can help you develop the skills and knowledge within your team to help keep your workforce safe in the event of a terror attack.
We will provide you with the training based on the Stay Safe Campaign as set out by the Police. Areas covered include:
- Providing your staff with information on where the best places are to hide, or how to protect yourself in your workplace by using furniture and equipment immediately around you.
- We will use your buildings emergency procedures action plan in the training we deliver to you. If you don't have a plan, we can help you develop one.
- We can help you do a risk assessment to best benefit your workplace in finding areas of safety without occurring major injuries.
- We can help teach your staff to remain calm and quiet and work out the best route to take to get out to safety.
- We will teach your staff what to tell the police when you contact them to ensure a quick rescue. Also what to expect the price will do when you find you.
- There are a lot of other lifesaving skills we can offer in order to keep improve the ability of your staff to stay safe in the event of an incident.
Given the likelihood that paramedics and emergency medical staff will not be allowed into the area until deemed secure by the security services, we are also able to provide training in treatment of casualties until paramedics or security staff can assist. Time is of essence when providing immediate care and therefore such training will prove invaluable in the event of a terror attack.
So how can Code Blue Education help you to stay safe?
We able to help teach your staff how to deal with mass casualties and provide immediate lifesaving skills. These skills are beyond your basic First Aid at Work qualification and will only help them to save their colleagues, we will teach them how to drag casualties to a safe place at the same time as minimizing further injuries, thereby allowing paramedics and doctors to provide life saving skills, this is also an extremely effective team building exercise.
Our trainers have had experience in real life mass shootings, bomb blasts, major incident situations and been taught by the Police, EMS, Military and Homeland Security (USA) Instructors.
