Active Landscape Talk and Workshop in Cambridge Room

Overview

Join us in person for the Active Landscape Talk and Workshop to explore how urban spaces can improve population health.

Dr. Anna Boldina will present the latest findings of University of Cambridge research project on how urban design can tackle inactivity pandemic. The concept of Active Urbanism is based on evolution and adaptation theory and offers parameters for playful enticing landscapes encouraging a variety of movement while walking through: involving upper body, mind and balancing system a lot more than conventional walking. Studies showed that using such landscapes can improve bone density, cardiovascular health, muscle coactivation, balance at all ages and mental heath. It can also bring people from all walks of life together.

The event will start a 30 min talk presenting findings in physiology, social psychology and practicalities of implementation followed by a discussion and a workshop applying the findings to two example sites in Cambridge: Market Square and Arbury Court.
