Game Plan: Can Football Lead the Way In Gender Equality?

After a pivotal summer of sport, UN Women invite game-changing women from the world of football to discuss its power as one of the UK's greatest cultural touchpoints. Exploring the ways in which the Beautiful Game can shift the dial further in creating more opportunities for women, striving for equal pay and ensuring safe and inclusive environments for fans and players alike.

Claire Barnett, UN Women UK Exec Director

UN Women was created in 2010 to direct UN activities on gender equality issues, with the aim of removing the social and cultural barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their potential and promote gender equality on a global scale.

Karen Dobres , Lewes FC

Karen Dobres is Non-Exec Director at Lewes FC and manages their Equality Campaign, working to unearth a new market of female fans for women’s football who come not only to watch a great performance on the pitch, but also in solidarity with Lewes’ campaign for equality within football.

Amina Khan, Romance FC

Amina Khan is Coach at Romance FC, a creative womxn’s football collective who play in and around East London. Founded in 2012, the team are an open minded mix of talent and organisers of Playing For Kicks an annual 5-aside tournament connecting grassroots womxns teams from across the country.

Felicia Pennant, SEASON

Felicia Pennant is Founder and Editor-In-Chief of SEASON, a trailblazing football and fashion platform that launched in London in 2016 to counter the male, pale and sometimes stale state of modern football culture: telling stories that showcase, celebrate and empower female fans authentically, while unpacking important issues, emphasising diversity and collaborating with exciting creative talent.
