About this Event
2020 has been a very challenging year, but one positive to come from physical distancing measures is that an untapped national enthusiasm for cycling has come to the fore. Many people got on their bikes for leisure purposes, as well as commuting and shopping during lockdown when traffic levels were low.
The Bikes for Keyworkers scheme had far more requests from women than men, and many bike recipients were from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities.
We will hear what Active Oxfordshire and Cyclox (Oxford's Cycling Campaign) are doing to keep up the momentum of this positive trend, and from some of the people who were able to start riding a bike as a result of the Bikes for Keyworkers scheme.
'If we want to ensure that cycling is truly an activity for all in our city and county, then we need to be asking the question: “If you don’t own a cycle, and you are not confident about riding one, what support do you need to start and complete your journey?”' - Josh Lenthall, Senior Strategic Relationship Manager, Active Oxfordshire
