Course Description:
This course focuses on the importance of collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams to effectively incorporate activity into holistic care plans. Participants will explore strategies for communication, partnership building, and inclusive planning to ensure that activity becomes a meaningful and sustainable part of everyday care. Emphasis is placed on understanding individual needs, supporting carers, and creating a shared culture of wellbeing.
Course Description:
This course explores the use of reminiscence as a powerful tool to support emotional wellbeing, communication, and social connection and individuals living with memory loss or cognitive decline. Participants will learn how to plan and facilitate meaningful reminiscence activities using music, photographs, storytelling, objects, and other sensory prompts. The course also examines the psychological foundations of reminiscence and its role in person-centred care.
Course Aim:
To provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to plan and deliver effective reminiscence activities that support memory, identity, and wellbeing across a variety of care settings.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the benefits of reminiscence for cognitive, emotional, and social wellbeing.
- Identify appropriate themes, tools, and materials for engaging individuals in reminiscence activities.
- Facilitate group and one-to-one reminiscence sessions with confidence and sensitivity.
- Adapt reminiscence approaches to meet the diverse needs, preferences, and cultural backgrounds of individuals.
- Reflect on the ethical considerations and emotional impact of reminiscence work.

Certificates of attendance will only be issued to attendees who attend for the whole of the session.This course will be delivered via ZOOM and will include, presentations, discussion and reflection, case studies, videos and demonstrations. Please make sure that you are familiar with using ZOOM.
