Acute Medical Update for Consultants (6 CPD credits available)

This course provides 6 CPD credits in accordance with the CPD Scheme of the Royal College of Radiologists
This one day course is aimed at experienced doctors in specialised areas of medicine (including areas such as oncology, palliative care, rheumatology, dermatology and neurology) and surgery, to receive an update on handling a variety of general medical problems. This will be particularly useful for providing an update for consultants on call.
Target Audience
Consultants, senior registrars and SAS / staff grade doctors working in specialist medicine areas (e.g. oncology, palliative care, rheumatology, dermatology and neurology) or surgery who are looking for an update on general medicine. It may also appeal to specialist nurses.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, attendees will have increased confidence in their handling of a variety of acute medical problems, having received an update on current approaches to treatments from experienced colleagues working in those areas of medicine.
Topics / areas covered
The day will cover a number of talks from medical consultants from across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust covering topics including:
- Electrolyte disturbance
- Diabetes
- Strokes and seizures
- PEs and thromboembolic disease
- Acute cardiology
- Asthma and COPD
- Management of treatment related rashes
- Escalation to ITU
- Sepsis and the deteriorating patient
- Elderly care and frailty
