Dr. Gary Coulton is our guest facilitator for The Extra Mile on 1st December. He worked for many years at the interface between academic research and business: as a university academic, teacher, business owner, innovator, executive coach, consultant, sports coach and scientific researcher. Gary brings scientific rigour with a human touch to focus on our clients' needs.
Gary will be joined at The Extra Mile by Karen Jones from Denison Consulting. Gary and Karen collaborate in using Denison's powerful methods to explore organisational cultures and prioritise action.
Here's what Gary has to say about his session:
There’s a conundrum I want to share with you and it’s this – Is it possible to 'coach' organisations to achieve high performance using the same approaches we use when we coach individual people who wish to excel?
In the workplace we’re often assessed by the consequences of our decisions, and the more wise decisions we make the more successful we are deemed to be. So, how can we raise the likelihood of making more wise decisions? Fortunately this is a learnable skill, both for people and the organisations they work within.
My challenge in the session will be to convince you that it is indeed possible to link our personal internal “culture” with the external cultures of our organisations for mutual benefit. I also challenge myself to make this as fundamentally captivating as possible (or it has no merit), whilst at the same time as making it an every day, maintainable practice for anyone. No pressure there then!
During the session, we will engage in some individual and shared exercises which will:
Leverage our personal core capacities namely, our heart (purpose & values; Emotional Intelligence), head (creativity and analysis; Intellectual Intelligence) and finally our gut (motivation and courage; Positive Intelligence) in order to unleash our Adaptive Intelligence.
We will share our new insights in real time within our “team” using scalable on-line tools. You will see how we could share this experience across the globe if necessary.
We will see how to identify the human location of an organisation’s heart, head and gut, how to measure the strengths and weaknesses of its culture, and how to develop high performing cultures delivering real-world change.
