Overview

As UK councils face rising energy costs and net-zero pressures, the question is no longer whether to rethink street lighting, but how.

We’re inviting local authorities to join a FREE webinar, hosted by Project Centre and Telensa, as we explore the practical and strategic considerations involved in delivering adaptive street lighting at a local level.

Drawing on our recent partnership with the London Borough of Newham, we will share successes and lessons learnt from their adaptive lighting trial. The session will highlight how evidence-led design, robust risk assessment, and inclusive community engagement can help local authorities tackle financial and environmental challenges while maintaining public safety, accessibility, and confidence in the built environment.

Participants will gain an understanding of:

  • How adaptive lighting can reduce energy consumption, cut operational costs, and contribute to net zero targets
  • The process of risk assessment and compliance with lighting standards
  • Community and stakeholder engagement approaches to ensure inclusive and safe outcomes
  • Lessons learnt from the Newham pilot, including evaluation, post-trial monitoring, and cost-benefit insights
  • Innovation and technology to further optimise and enhance adaptive street lighting
  • Practical methods for addressing financial and environmental challenges in street lighting projects

This webinar is designed for local authority officers working in climate adaptation, transport, highways, lighting design, sustainability, and aims to provide practical insight into the opportunities and challenges of implementing adaptive lighting policies.
