Event description

Description

Workshop cost: £120 + booking fees/ 10% discount for Wimbledon Guild counsellors/ Limited Early-bird discount of 15% available until 23rd March 2018 or until sold out

The workshop:

Addiction has been described as “cunning, baffling and powerful”, working with clients who demonstrate addictive behaviours can also be described as “frustrating, confusing and mystifying!”

Looking at addiction from an attachment perspective can be enlightening and empowering for client and therapist. It can provide a firm foundation from which to support recovery and facilitate profound change.

In this one day CPD workshop we will seek to explore how counsellors and therapists can become more effectual in helping bring about sustainable lasting changes which bring increased satisfaction, wellbeing and joy for a wide range of clients. We will seek answers for some challenging and too often unasked questions.

What do we mean by addiction? how do we use the word as a description, a diagnosis, a warning or simply as a criticism?

How does early attachment experience manifest as patterns of addiction later in life?

How can we best respond to clients who present as ‘addicted’? how do they see themselves and what would they like to be different?

Through a mix of large group teaching, smaller group exploratory and experiential work and whole group plenary work. Attendees can hope to go away feeling better informed and more skilled with a wider range of therapeutic responses to a wide range of client presentations.
