Event Details

Young people leaving care continue to face a wide range of inequalities, including poor health outcomes. This free half-day seminar is an opportunity for colleagues across voluntary, health and local government sectors to explore how national strategies are being implemented to improve the health of young people leaving care. Following recent reforms to the health system and publication of the cross-government Care Leavers Strategy, it will be an opportunity to:

  • Get an update on key policy and initiatives including the Care Leavers Strategy, Access All Areas campaign, MindEd Programme and NICE Quality Standard for the health and well-being of looked after children and care leavers
  • Inform how cross-sector initiatives including Access All Areas can help champion the health needs of care leavers
  • Share and discuss examples of good practice and network with others in the field

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Alan Bell, Team Leader - Vulnerable Children, Department of Health
  • Kevin Woods, Assistant Director, Children in Care Division, Department for Education
  • Dr Linda Sheppard, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
  • Dr Cathy Street, Principal Research Officer, National Children's Bureau
  • Martin Hazlehurst, National Manager, Catch 22 National Care Advisory Service

The National Children's Bureau is organising this event as part of the Children's Partnership and its role as a strategic partner to the Department of Health. Places are available on a first come, first served basis. Lunch will be provided.
