We are pleased to invite you to the first event of the Social Work and Sociology group. The theme of our first event is poverty.

About this Event

Topics for discussion include:

• Individuals and groups disproportionately affected by poverty

• Exploring the intersections between poverty and other social inequalities

• Poverty and place: global and international perspectives/ rural and urban

• The relationship between research, policy and practice in efforts to address poverty

Day outline

• Guest speakers, Dr Jo Warner (University of Kent) and Dr Will Mason (University of Sheffield).

• Workshop sessions, which attendees are invited to lead or co-facilitate.

• Planning and discussion session, mapping out aims and future directions for the study group.

• Lunch and refreshments will be provided

Expressions of interest to present or lead a discussion/ workshop

We invite you to share your work and ideas on the theme of poverty and the role of social work and sociology in efforts to address it. We welcome contributions from practitioners, students (undergraduate and postgraduate) as well as teaching and research-focused staff. Presentations/ discussions could include: practice issues and approaches; ethical or early development research ideas; reflections on teaching and learning; presentation of research findings.

Continuing professional development (CPD)

A CPD certificate will be available for practitioners who attend the event.

Additional information

This is a free event and there is a fund for travel expenses, available on request.

We warmly welcome service users, students and practitioners to attend as well as those involved in teaching and research activities.
