Event description

Description

It is thought that as many as 5% of children are affected by ADHD in London. This percentage is based on young people that have already been formally diagnosed. However, we can assume the actual figure is probably much greater and that many other children are currently living with ADHD symptoms without support.

Unfortunately there still seems to be a general lack of understanding and knowledge around ADHD as a condition. Sen Talk has teamed up with many professionals and practitioners to offer this conference to share an overview of Attention Deficit Disorders, behaviours and theraputic approaches.

This event will be a uselful insight into difficulties often experienced in an education and home settings. We will explore the nature of ADHD and Mental Health, the benefits of Pastoral Support Programmes and Understanding the meaning behind Challenging Behaviour.

This event will provide refreshments for all our guests and the cost of this will be included in the price of the ticket.

Annaliese Boucher- Founder/ Director of Sen Talk Charity

Annaliese founded the Charity Sen Talk just over a year ago as she felt it was necessary to set up a support network for not only families of children of SEND but those working with the children too. With over 10 years’ experience across a variety of children services within London it was clear that a new provision was needed. Annaliese concentrates her time developing intervention strategies that are translatable both at home and within a school context and focusses on providing the best support for families experiencing difficulties accessing support. Annaliese is also raising a child with a diagnosis of ASD and ADHD and finds this pivotal to understanding the needs of both parent and child.

Alastair Yates- Lead/Chair of ADHD Richmond

Alastair was a presenter for over 20 years with the BBC, BBC World New and BBC News. Today, Alastair is the Lead/Chair of ADHD Richmond, a Support Group for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, based in SW London. Alastair became involved in the group after his son was diagnosed with ADHD and he wanted to learn more about the condition.

Ellie Loughnan- Head Teacher of Mainstream Primary School

Ellie works at a school in Wandsworth and has 25 years of experience in education. Having spent much of her early career supporting children with SEN, she became a SENCO in 2008 before completing a Masters in Special and Inclusive Education. Within this MA, she specialised in ADHD and ASD and is passionate about the ways in which children with these and all SEN can be enabled to thrive in Mainstream Education. She is now a head teacher and continues to provide training on SEN for trainee and teaching colleagues.

Marc Lorenzi- Education Advocate at Communities Empowerment Network

Marc has been an education advocate with C.E.N. for four years, working with families and young people for almost twenty years. Marc helps parents by providing an understanding of their rights and effective ways of communicating with schools. Marc describes the work as ‘challenging, but enjoyable and very rewarding’

Charlotte O’Reilly- Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Charlotte runs an occupational therapy service supporting children through playful individual and group treatment sessions. Including the ingenious use of martial arts for therapy. Charlotte offers incredible insight into the effected support for ADHD children through occupational therapy based techniques. Charlotte also works for St Georges NHS in special schools as a specialist children’s occupational therapist.

All ticket sales will be used to fund our further events and support services within our charitable service.
