It's Criminal what we don't know and don't do in relation to ADHD and Crime. Let’s keep learning and acting.   - a topical, factual and entertaining presentation by ex -Sgt Steve Brown.

Poorly managed and untreated ADHD is one of the top five causes of youth crime as reported in the Youth Crime Action plan published by the Home Office, however it has still not been taken seriously. In a survey conducted by Phil Anderton and Steve Brown of parents whose teenagers are involved with the police, the parents had stated that at age seven they knew and identified their children had a problem that would lead to trouble with the law. Parents and teachers need to recognise the signs in primary school and put in place interventions that work as well as refer to appropriate healthcare professionals. If a child has two fixed term exclusions for behaviour you need to be looking at what can be done differently rather than continue to exclude. The code of practice says a referral for a mental health assessment may be necessary.

ADHD: What’s the HEART of the Matter?  Jerry Mills

Rarely will you have the opportunity to gain so much insight from a single training as you will with Jerry Mills, acclaimed American teacher, singer/songwriter and ADHD adult. Having lived with ADHD his entire life, Jerry will address the core issues and problems which comprise “the heart of the matter" when facing the ADHD challenge. He will then provide strategies and solutions to addressing them. Through engaging stories, original songs, humor and personal experience, he will inspire you to see, feel and understand ADHD in a new way.

According to Jerry, “Feelings drive behavior and choices, not just for ADHD individuals but for parents, teachers and all who care about them. Focusing on specific steps we can each take to face these challenges and address the difficulties, I want to leave you inspired, motivated and determined to change what matters most.”

Jerry will also provide strategies to address: Acting Out Behaviors, Classroom Management, Improving Communication, Tailoring Instruction and Structuring the Learning/Living Environment.
