About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

This experiential workshop provides practical, evidence-informed tools for supporting individuals with ADHD in managing emotional overwhelm. Drawing on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed therapy methods, the session will explore how to help clients identify, understand, and regulate their emotions in therapeutic settings. Participants will gain insight into emotional dysregulation across ADHD subtypes and will learn how to apply accessible, adaptable interventions that support client autonomy and emotional resilience.

Whether your clients freeze from overwhelm, lash out from frustration, or shut down due to shame, this workshop equips you with the language, structure, and tools to respond effectively and ethically in the moment.

Learning Objective Participants Can Expect From This Event

  • Participants will be able to identify emotional dysregulation patterns across ADHD presentations (hyperactive/impulsive, inattentive, and combined types) and their impact on executive functioning.
  • Participants will gain practical experience using DBT-informed therapy tools, such as “Name It to Tame It,” “Opposite Action,” and “Check the Facts,” to support clients with ADHD in developing emotional regulation skills.
  • Participants will learn how to co-create client-specific emotional regulation plans that incorporate body-based, cognitive, and sensory grounding strategies to reduce feelings of overwhelm and enhance treatment outcomes.

Who is This Workshop Appropriate For?

  • This workshop is designed for psychotherapists, counsellors, life coaches, ADHD-diagnosed individuals, mental health professionals, teachers, and educators who work with or support people with ADHD and emotional dysregulation.

How May This Workshop Impact Your Practice?

  • Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how emotions influence motivation, treatment, and adherence to therapy in clients with ADHD. They'll be equipped with a toolkit of adaptable strategies to help clients pause, regulate, and respond rather than react in emotionally charged moments. This workshop helps bridge the gap between counselling or psychotherapy and emotional support, enhancing the practitioner’s ability to facilitate behavioural change without crossing into therapeutic territory.
