Adinkrahene Careers Day at The Croydon Supplementary Education Project
Sat 12 November 2016, 10:00 – 14:00 GMT
"Adinkrahene", chief of the West African Adinkra symbols, advocates the values of greatness, charisma and leadership. In keeping with these traditional West African values, the Croydon Supplementary Education Project (CSEP) warmly welcomes you to its first annual careers day, The Adinkrahene African Careers Day, on Saturday 12th November 2016, from 10am-2pm.
The Adinkrahene African Careers Day is aimed at all parents, students and young people between the ages of 7-16 who are thinking to progress onto further and higher education, and/or are looking to start their own businesses in the future.
The day is designed to equip students of African descent with the insight, knowledge and skills that they will need later on in their academic and professional careers, and it aims to do so through a variety of forms, including presentations, workshops, networking sessions, and panel discussions.
These conversations are designed to encourage students to start thinking seriously about what subjects they may want to study in the future, which universities they can, and should, go to, what careers they may want to embark upon, and most importantly, how they can use their degrees, skills and trades to create sustainable business for the black community.
The Adinkrahene Careers Day will have presentations, workshops and networking sessions led by recent university graduates of African descent, whose academic crediatials range not only from Undergraduate to PhD level, but have been awarded from a range of university institutions, including Queen Mary University of London and Oxford University.
The subjects that will be covered include:
- Law (Juliana Modeste)
- Politics (Ayana Porteous-Simpson)
- Biomedical Sciences and Medicine (Dayo Afolabi)
- Computer Engineering (Hussein Tejani)
- English Literature (Aisha-Asher Morgan)
- Physics and Dental Implanting (Ovando Carter)
Students will also have access to a PDF version of the Adinkrahene African Careers Day Handbook, which offers an overview of the highest paid degree types in the UK and their entry requirements, the top univiersites in the UK for specific degree types, the top companies in the UK, apprenticeships and trades, and more!
