About this event
What can I expect?
Disabled people make up over 21% of the population, and approximately 70% of these disabilities are ‘invisible’. Per the Equality Act (2010) employers should not ask candidates if they are Disabled before an offer of employment has been made. This means that many employers wait to initiate conversations about access needs until the person is in post. This means that Disabled applicants often must struggle through recruitment processes that are not very accessible and full of disabling barriers.
But what does it mean to level the playing field from the start of your recruitment process? Might this risk giving disabled candidates an unfair advantage? How and when should you offer adjustments, and what does reasonable mean for your organisation?
Led by Evenbreak as a part of our inclusive employment project, this session will equip you with the resources to confidently support Disabled candidates through the entire recruitment process. So, not only can you be sure that you are hiring the best person for the role, but also in your compliance with your statutory duties under UK employment and equality legislation.
