Please do not park at Whitdale as parking is limited and is for Whitdale staff, residents, and visitors only. Parking is available at the Cemetery, which is located just behind Whitdale. Please arrive at 9 am for the training. Please do not attend earlier than 9 am, as this causes disruption for staff and residents at Whitdale. Upon arrival, please use the day centre door and not the main entrance door.

The Administration of Medication Training is a mandatory session and an accredited course, delivered by a pharmacist with appropriate clinical qualifications and expertise in this area.

The course has an assessed element, which will determine competency on the day. These will be marked post-training, and managers will be advised of any issues within approximately 5 working days. Thereafter, continuing competency will be monitored through your line management structure.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session, you will have refreshed your knowledge and demonstrated your competency in the following areas:-

Understand the different classes of medication
Know the different forms of medication and the routes of administration
The importance of strength, dosage, frequency, and timing
Understand the difference between generic and brand names
Know what should appear on medicine labels
Understand what is meant by homely remedies
Understand the Council’s and your Service’s policy on medication
Have an understanding of the law and handling medication
Understand what is involved in the administration of medication to clients
Know what records need to be completed in relation to medication
Understand how to support clients and adapt to their different needs
Understand your role in the self-administration of medicines
Know how clients should be monitored after medicines have been administered
Know what to do in the event of a medicine error.
