About this event
Child and adolescent Health Impacts of Learning Indoor environments under net zero: The CHILI Hub.
The CHILI Hub, one of seven new transdisciplinary research hubs funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), will address the challenge of how to maximise opportunities for improving health in children and young people (CYP) in indoor educational settings during the transition to net zero buildings.
Delivering a zero-carbon future whilst responding to the urgent threat of poor indoor air quality and climate change on CYP physical and mental health requires transformative, scaled-up solutions. To propose impactful solutions and develop effective interventions, we need to understand the complex relationships between net zero building adaptations, IAQ, high temperature and CYP health.
This talk, lays foundation for developing these solutions through a comprehensive research programme, co-created with stakeholders, CYP and school communities, and build a sustainable research community in this emerging research area.
Speakers
Pia Hardelid is Co-Director of the CHILI Hub for Health, and Professor of Epidemiology at the UCL Department of Population, Policy and Practice. She leads the Environmental Child Heatlh Research Group within the Child Health Informatics Group. Her research focuses on how we can use linked, administrative data for research into the epidemiology of respiratory infections in children, and how the physical environment impacts child health.
Dejan Mumovic is Co-Director of the CHILI Hub for the Built Environment, and Professor of Building Performance Analysis at the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering. His research focuses on modelling and monitoring aspects of building performance analysis in the context of health, comfort and cognitive performance.
