Event description
An afternoon of music, toys, and sensory fun! Be among the first to hear the new songs created especially for adoptive and foster families.

About this Event

Adopting a Musical Approach is a project devised by Cat McGill, and funded by Arts Council England, the Folk Camps Society, and some awesome Kickstarter backers.

It’s a project designed to help adoptive families primarily, but the songs and games devised throughout the course of the project can of course be enjoyed by any and all children!

During the project Cat has composed and record an album of new music aimed at primary-age children and families. Cat has used her psychology background to craft a set of songs that will serve a specific purpose. For example, one song might be designed to help a child with making choices, another might be to explore feelings around moving to a new family. In much the same way as you might use stories to explore a concept with a child, Cat believes that song can be a valuable tool for learning - with the added benefit that music often seems to find it’s way to the deepest parts of the brain in a way that we don’t entirely understand yet.

The live show will be fun and interactive, with props, toys, sensory materials, and even a bubble machine! Kids can enjoy the music while parents learn a bit more about how they could use the songs in day to day life at home. For more information see https://catmcgill.uk/ALL-ABOUT-AAMA.HTML

Access Info:

The music will be amplified, though only enough to lift our voices over the general hubbub!

There will be plenty of opportunity for children to join in with the songs, as well as instruments, toys, and sensory props, and it's fine for children to get up and move around during the show.

There is an access ramp at the Glenfarg Street entrance to the building. I am expecting this is the entrance that we will use, but would recommend if you have specific access needs that you contact the hall directly on 0141-353-3762 in advance of the event (or let me know and I can do it on your behalf). This entrance allows access directly to the Main Hall. There is an internal chair lift available for public use, which operates between Main Hall level and the level of the Mid Hall, which is the one we are using.

Accessible toilet is adjacent to the Main Hall: dimensions 3 m x 1.6 m; sink height 74 cm; has baby changing facility and an alarm cord. (This information has come from https://www.euansguide.com/venues/woodside-hall-glasgow-1421/information)
