Overview

Dr Barbara Sumner talks about her work 'Adoption Deconstructed' and her upcoming book.

Dr Barbara Sumner is an author, researcher, and filmmaker whose work interrogates accepted narratives and exposes the histories society prefers not to face. Founder of Adoption Deconstructed, she challenges the legitimacy of human adoption as a social practice and argues for the rights and realities of the people taken. She has written four books, including the memoir Tree of Strangers and the historical novel The Gallows Bird. She produced three multi-award-winning documentaries and completed a Master’s in Creative Non-Fiction at 61, followed by a PhD at 64. She is currently taking pre-sales for BASTARDS, the book drawn from her doctoral study into the manufacture of identity through adoption.

Registration for this online event is free or by voluntary donation. The first 30 minutes is open to all and will be recorded for our YouTube channel; following Dr. Sumner's talk we will hold a private Q&A session with adult adoptees.
