The Adoption & Fostering Podcast hosts Al Coates MBE & Scott Casson-Rennie

This promises to be an enjoyable and informative day as we explore how to build resilience for parents and children and what can be put in place to support. Adoption UK/Adopter Voice will also contribute on the day.

Al will be sharing information and practical advice and strategies on Parental resilience and the importance of developing and having the ability to constructively cope with and bounce back from the inevitable challenges faced on becoming an adoptive parent. Resilience is about creatively finding solutions, building trusting relationships, maintaining a positive attitude and seeking help when it’s needed as well.

Al will then consider the importance of building resilience in adopted children and young people to enable them to better cope whether it be in the emotionally challenging environment of school or with the stresses that are often part of day to day life for adoptees.

A supportive network is essential to building and maintaining resilience, and throughout the day we will hear from Adoption UK about ‘Adopter Voice’ and the work they do to build and promote support for adoptive families both regionally and nationally.

Scott will talk about the origins of Peer Support, the forms in which it comes, and how families could consider supporting other families in the community. Scott will also talk about the idea of “alternative support” available, complimenting the idea of Peer Support, but also to ensure that busy parents can find support that meets their own needs.

The day will be an excellent opportunity to meet and develop relationships with other adoptive parents, as well as an opportunity to meet some of the staff from Adoption East Midlands who deliver support services to the Region and are keen to hear your views and feedback for future development.
