A fun, inspiring class which gets results?

Taught in an actual womanswear design studio, surrounded by gorgeous designs, fabrics and inspiration?

Look no further! MaryRose and her team can teach you everything you need to know from our studio in Belfast - learn from those who live it as a career!!

Let's check you are advanced beginner level and ready for class:

2. You can thread a machine and bobbin unaided, and do not need assistance with using a machine? ✔️

2. Already sewing at a reasonable speed, understand seam allowances and have made cushions, totebags or other starter projects?✔️

3. Want to get going with the exciting stuff - like dressmaking and fashion? ✔️

This is the perfect class for you! It's aimed at those who already can use a sewing machine with reasonable confidence - this advanced beginners class is an introduction to dressmaking, focusing on kidswear.

In this dressmaking taster class, you will cover the following basics of dressmaking and will make a gorgeous girls dress - yours to keep after class! ✂️

What is included and what will I learn?

1. How to: read and understand a commercial pattern - we decipher the confusing symbols, notes and garment breakdowns.

2. How to: lay fabric and cut like a pro - cutting isn't as easy as you think, we make it simple!

3. How to: make a girls dress, utilising professional fashion industry machine and hand sewing techniques.

4. How to: consider design, fabric and colour. This class isn't simply about sewing and construction - you will be taught how to think like a designer, we look at actual industry moodboards, sketches and how to plan your bespoke designs.

5. Yours to keep: your girlswear dress paper pattern, to use again and again....

6. Happy sewers need tea and cake - it's a fashion law!! We are only too happy to provide endless cups, with loads of cake to keep your strength up while creating!

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is perfect for those who can do the following:

MUSTS:

1. Must be able to thread a machine easily - including the bobbin, with no assistance from a tutor.

2. Must be able to sew at a reasonable speed, in a straight line. An understanding of seam allowances is needed.

4. Must have completed several sewing projects at beginner level eg: cushions, totebags, aprons etc.

Do I need to bring a sewing machine with me?

You are welcome to bring your own machine. If you do not own a machine, we supply one for you in class.

What time do we start and finish at?

We start at 10am sharp, the morning session finishes at 1pm. You can relax and grab a bite in the mill cafe downstairs, while we prep the studio to start again at 2pm.

The afternoon session finishes at 5pm.

How many students are in the class?

6 students are in the class, we keep classes small to ensure loads of teacher / pupil attention, our classes are fun, relaxed and a great way to get a bit of 'me time' while making new friends!

How much does the course cost?

The course includes 6 hours of teaching, the use of all machinery and equipment, your sewing pattern to take away, and any relevant handouts to take away and keep. This course is based on one tutor per 3 students which means lots of teacher attention!

The course cost is £99

What do I need to bring with me?

On enrollment, text 07913 166947 with your name and number - we will be in touch with what to buy for class. You can buy yourself, or we can provide all fabrics you will need, you can decide what suits when we chat through your design ideas before class.

Can I advance onto another course afterwards?

Of course!!!! This term we will be offering many levels of classes from beginners to dressmaking to pattern drafting and industry masterclasses, so you can progress at your own pace to whatever level you want to achieve.

Any other important stuff I should know before booking?

Just a few things to bear in mind:

1. Please make sure you can sew to the level required. Please DO NOT book to 'test yourself!', you must be able to keep up in class, as we do not have time to teach absolute beginners. See the checklist to remind you what skills are needed.

2. We have so much to learn in each class - late arrivals disrupt teaching and we are so busy we can't recap for anyone who arrives 10 minutes or more late. There is parking at Conway Mill, and it is easy to find - only a couple of minutes from Belfast city centre.

3. We can not split classes between two people- one person attends all day. (Classes are for adults age 18+).

4. Should you find you can not make the classes, you can transfer the name so someone can attend the course in your place. Due to the niche nature of classes, we do not offer refunds.

Can I call the studio for more info if I have any questions?

Absolutely, give us a call on 07913 166947 (mobile) / 02895 215683 (studio) , we are happy to help.

* NB: Studio is only open on selected days every week so call or text the mobile if you need us in a hurry*
