The TA Training Organisation is able to offer the opportunity to join the Year 4 Theory Group in single days of Advanced Clinical Theory. Attendees will spend a day (or days) considering advanced counselling and psychotherapy theory.  Participants will be invited to feel at home, relax and participate fully in engaging discussions and thinking around a theory topic.

It’s great to be able to spend a day in the comfort of the The Horsforth Centre and engage with like-minded therapy colleagues, thinking about advanced topics”

Who can attend?

  • Qualified counsellors who have completed a Diploma qualification

  • Practitioners who have two years of clinical experience

  • Experienced counsellors, experienced psychotherapists, clinical psychologist advanced trainees and qualified, mental health professionals, CBT practitioners, EMDR advanced practitioners

  • Practitioners who are ready to access advanced clinical TA and integrative theory.

Seminar programme

There are a range of dates through the year. You are invited to attend just one or more dates.  Each day’s attendance costs £75* and can be booked through the TA Training Organisation website (through Eventbrite). See below for more details of dates and topics.

*2 day courses are available at £120 for both days.

The day starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4.30pm with a one hour lunch break and session breaks. Please be aware that lunch is NOT provided.

Course content: Cornell, Erskine, Tudor & Summers, Hargaden & Sills, Intersubjectivity, Co-creativity, Critique of relational models and the relational approach

Saturday 19th November 2016.  9.30am to 4.30pm 

Advanced theory:  Working with Obsessive Compulsive Clients

Course Content: OCD v OCPD.  Personality and stigma.  OCPD following child development.  Model by Johnson.  CBT treatment of OCD.  Personality Adaptations.  DSM-V diagnostic considerations

Advanced theory: Psychodynamic Modality

Course Content: Psychodynamic theory.  Theory and its basic concepts.  Development through relationship with other. Regression, transference and counter-transference.

Saturday 14th January 2017.  9.30am to 4.30pm

Advanced theory: The Schizoid Defensive Structure

Course Content: Schizoid structure, development and defence. Kohut.  Masterson.  Treatment considerations using personality adaptations.  Diagnostic criteria.

Saturday 18th February 2017.  9.30 to 4.30pm

Advanced theory: Memory and the Brain

Course Content: Mindfulness and Mentalisation as processes.  The Cathecting Adult Ego State.  Theories of memory.  Neuroscience and Trauma 

20th May 2017.  9.30 to 4.30pm

Saturday 24th June 2017.   9.30am to 4.30pm

Advanced Theory: Borderline and Narcissistic Traits

Course Content: Models of personality structure and child development.  Skills based work and DBT.  DSM-V diagnostic criteria.  Personality Disorder and Critique.  Clinical Methodology.

Saturday 8th July 2017.  9.30am to 4.30pm (1 day course £80)
