Overview

This course is aimed at marine and fresh water aquaculture staff with previous knowledge of fish health, water quality and biology.

Entry Requirements: Previous knowledge and experience of fish health issues is desirable, for example by completing the Introductory Fish Health course.

Course Outcomes: Advanced Fish Health certificate


Course Description: The course covers a variety of topics, including: - Fish anatomy - Legislation - Diagnosis of common diseases of marine & freshwater fish - Treatment of diseases - Sampling techniques - Veterinary health plans - Biosecurity - Fish dissection and tissue sampling - Parasite identification - Bacterial sampling and culture - Water quality assessment


Other Information: This course can be delivered at Shetland UHI or elsewhere by arrangement. The course includes both theoretical (classroom) and practical work, including the dissection of fish.
