Course Overview:

Exceptional communication and influencing skills are critical to help you attain your strategic objectives. In this programme, you will learn how to flex your style, while having the required degree of gravitas and authority.  All achieved while effortlessly displaying personal presence and charm. Designed for those who need to lead, motivate and inspire for sure, but who also know that the buck stops with them. Elegant persuasion, now there’s a phrase.

The full day course will take you through:

  • Key Emotional Intelligence Skills of Star Performers.  Here you get the fundamental underlying skills and behaviours of those who are great at building business relationships. Then we look at the key emotional intelligence competencies you can develop to be more effective in your business environment.
  • Projecting A Powerful Presence. You will work on delivering a range of short, sharp personal pitches using different techniques.  This challenging session requires thinking on your feet, creativity, and encourages a dynamic pitching style.
  • The Art of Influence: Factors At Play.  Every day we use our influencing skills to try and get more of what we want. Understand the key factors at play in others you need to influence, and how to master the art of letting them have your way.
  • The Four Stages Of The Business Development Meeting: An Introduction.  Moving relationships forward at meetings is about getting what you want, to be sure.  But achieving that depends on your ability to create rapport, ask the right questions, pitch effectively and ask for what you want.

Who should Attend?

Finance Directors, Deputy Finance Directors, Heads of Procurement and equivalent Senior Managers.

Higher Education Procurement Association (HEPA)

HEPA is the network for procurement professionals in the HE sector. It was created as a result of the challenge set out in the Diamond Report to enhance the expertise and capacity of university procurement.

HEPA aims to:

  • Work to enhance individual competencies, knowledge and skills in procurement practices by providing face to face courses, e-learning, regional networking, competency frameworks, and much more
  • Provide leadership development programmes and learning opportunities
  • Develop and maintain an online repository of resources and information covering areas such as best practice, benchmarking, templates, and news
  • Provide procurement support beyond finance and procurement teams, including for procurement colleagues in HR, estates, IT, research teams and those with purchasing authority in academic departments.

HEPA is directed by the HEPA Management Board, and supported by a permanent member of staff, procurement specialist Emma Keenan.

It is delivered collaboratively by BUFDG and the HE purchasing consortia.

Procurement Maturity Assessments (PMAs)  are also available to all institutions, offering low-cost, detailed assessments of procurement capability to benchmark performance and drive improvement. Your PMA report will also help identify areas of the Academy that you may benefit from using.
