Event Details

This advanced course has been specifically designed for those with a basic understanding of microbiology who are working within the fields of Microbiology or Biocides. It follows on from the Introduction to Microbiology course. It has been devised to look both at the chemistry of the main active substance groups and their effect on the cell. It will therefore also look at the biochemistry of the target organism. Furthermore it will address the issue of measuring such effect by examining efficacy, the ways of observing it and the factors affecting it.

As the Biocidal Products Regulation (EC 528/2012) progresses, the focus moves away from larger pests such as insects and rodents and closer to the microscopic world of bacteria, fungi and viruses. This brings with it a requirement for a more in depth understanding of how disinfectant and preservative active ingredients, and the products into which they are formulated, actually work. This course is designed to help provide that understanding.

The course tutor is David Ashworth. David is an experienced industry professional who has worked for major players in the chemical market sector. He has experience of all aspects of the development, marketing and use of biocidal products including disinfection, oilfields, preservation and water/paper industries.

Feedback from those who attended previous courses includes:

‘Informative content - good level of knowledge’

‘Conducted at a good level’

‘Informative, well presented, relevant’

Very good content and well presented.’

‘Good refresher and a few new points’

BACS members are offered priority booking with attendance limited to 20 delegates to ensure that the course is interactive. Those attending will receive both a hard copy and CD of the course material.
