Event description

Aimed at experienced practitioners, this programme looks to work with delegates to expand their understanding of system level working. This one day programme takes place on 16th November.

Although there are many definitions of Organisaiton Development we have used ‘OD is business improvement through people’ as part of our introductory programme to learning about OD here in London. This has proved helpful in supporting practitioners to explore how their work fits with the underpinning values within this field of practice. In this workshop, we will explore the practice of OD as an approach to improvement which takes place within systems, not just within organisations.

Understanding how to work systemically across systems is a really important agenda as we move forward with our transformation work across health, care and the wider public sector. The workshop is designed for practitioners who have experience of working with change and improvement. The purpose of the workshop is to improve our OD capability to by:

  • Providing an opportunity to become more consciously aware of the systems we work in.
  • Having a light focus on theory and a high focus on PRACTICAL application.
  • Trying out tools, methodologies and frameworks in our own ‘work’ to better enable us to help our ‘clients’ explore interdependencies, inter-relationships, and potential ramifications and trade-offs.
  • Building confidence in our ability to adapt, and stay grounded enough to provide support in complex and changing environments.

The learning outcomes are designed to ensure the participants develop:

  • An enhanced understanding of systems thinking and what we can expect as we practice it.
  • An enhanced understanding of our own work challenges and situations.
  • Practice in ‘trying out’ in a safe environment different system-wide methodologies and frameworks.
  • An enhanced awareness and understanding of how our own ‘self’ is involved in, and impacts the process.
  • An opportunity to learn from each other.

The workshop has been designed and will be facilitated by two experienced OD practitioners, Dr Maxine Craig and Cheryl Young. Between them they have over 85 years of practical OD experience. Maxine has worked for over 35 years within the NHS and Cheryl brings an international perspective to our workshop. She has worked as an OD consultant in international systems and brings her extensive experience of working systemically in systems and how to work across the many boundaries we all encounter in our work.
