Description

Introduction:

This course is part of a wider programme of investment to support skills development for staff in local businesses. The investment aims to address skills shortages and courses have been identified through consultation with businesses and industry bodies. Delegates must be Entitled or Entitled for work*

Target audience:

Ideal for project managers and key project team members wanting to develop their range of project management skills and understanding of their practical application.

Course content:

  • Managing a project: business case, scope, key processes and documentation.
  • Managing risk: identification, appraisal and management of risk.
  • Key project tools: cost estimation, work breakdown structures, timeline planning, scheduling resources.
  • Project management principles: proven benefits and barriers to success and important trends and developments including PRINCE2, Agile and Lean approaches.
  • Projects and the organisation: understanding PRINCE2 principles and their adaptation for business purposes.
  • Personal development as a project manager: key skills required including leadership, organisation and communication.
  • Professional development as a project manager: PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner, APM qualifications and accreditation.

Course details:

  • Delegates should report to the Professional Studies Centre, which is on the Highlands College Campus behind the Highlands cafe (adjacent to a grass playing field and car park).
  • It is best accessed by using the St Saviours Hill entrance.
  • When you enter the Professional studies centre, the screen will state the room the course is in.
  • Parking is available on site. Delegates who are travelling by car should arrive by 08:45am in order to locate a parking space. The workshop tutor will give you a parking permit when you arrivae at the session.

  • Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be available throughout the day. Lunch is not provided. Delegates should either bring a packed lunch or can use the Highlands College canteen, which is located within short walking distance (2 minutes) from the Professional Studies Centre
