The following contains important information including course aims, timetable, pre-course learning and preparation that you may find worthwhile, and some background information about the course.

Course Aims

This training course aims to provide you with a safe learning environment in which to experience a series of simulated clinical challenges designed around acute care scenarios:

• To consider individual, team, and organisational factors that might enhance or impede optimal, safe patient care in the ward setting

• To raise your awareness of roles and responsibilities, skills and contributions of other members of the multi-professional team

• To consider how relevant national or local policies and procedures contribute to risk management and patient safety where you work

Course Background

• This day aims to provide a safe, supportive environment in which to review how you apply your knowledge, skills and experiences in the context of a simulated ward environment.

• The course is divided into a series of scenarios followed by focused debriefs led by an experienced member of faculty. During these sessions you will be asked to contribute to the discussions

• The focus of the course is not an assessment and nobody will be asked to perform unrealistically outside their clinical role or current competence.

• Please respect the contributions of others and participate actively throughout the day. All discussions and any issues raised will remain confidential within the group.

• We are committed to providing you with an excellent learning opportunity. We will ask you to participate in course evaluation to assist us in reflecting on our own practice and developing future courses.

E-Learning Materials

Your ½ day face-to-face simulation course is supported by ½ day of E-learning that you are required to complete to generate a full day of training. Information on how to access the E-Learning element of your training shall be communicated at a later date.
