This course is intended for those who have completed my advanced course (level 2) and would like to learn more about wild hedgehog rescue.
This course follows on from the previous course and will cover key topics in more depth including tips for setting up a rescue.
I have over a decade's experience running a hospital for wild hedgehogs and training volunteers to help as foster carers. This course will provide you with the top tips I have learnt during this time and answers to the many questions asked by foster carers.
It is intended to supplement the advice and support given by your local hedgehog rescue. Please do not attempt to care for a wild hedgehog without support from a local rescue.
We will cover the following topics with plenty of opportunity to ask questions. A list of equipment and treatments talked about during the course will be provided to participants after the event:
- Tips and considerations for wound care including initial cleaning, abscesses and other wounds.
- An introduction to suction machines for removing fly strike
- An introduction to nebulisers for treating pneumonia and other breathing issues
- Limb injuries including the ethics and complications of amputation
- An introduction to the uses of hydrotherapy for wild hedgehogs
- The ethics and practicalities of keeping disabled hedgehogs in enclosed gardens
- Strimmer injuries
- Things to consider when setting up a rescue
- Further learning.
This course is limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Funds raised will support my rewilding project in East Yorkshire.
If you have not participated in the previous course but would still like to join, please drop me a line to discuss options.
It is possible to run this course as a bespoke course on request. Please get in touch for details.
