Event description

Description

HackBallet invites advanced and professional dancers and dance students with experience in ballet and contemporary dance to participate in a contemporary ballet and choreography workshop as part of the company's 2020 DeToxic project.

This professional development is for experienced dancers and dance students of all genders, who have an interest in improvisation.

Choreographer Briar Adams will lead a flow style class fusing principles of contemporary and ballet techniques to warm up and expand the movement potential of the body, incorporating technical studies, balance and adagio, turns, floorwork and travelling. Briar will share movement material from the company's research and development, and dancers will have the opportunity to explore their own personal expression of this material through creative expansion and improvisation.

Dancers of all genders with an interest in combining contemporary dance and pointe technique are encouraged to participate.

Artistic influences include Marie Chouinard's Goldberg Variations, Thom Yorke's Bloom and Pina Bausch's Vollmond.

DeToxic explores ways that dance and music can encourage individual expression, self selection and positive wellbeing by giving dancers opportunities for choice, learning, ownership and freedom within a structured performance framework. HackBallet welcomes greater adoption of contemporary dance principles - including anatomically sound movement practice, fusion training techniques and freedom from restrictive gender norms - by people who identify as ballet dancers.

HackBallet's XMÆSS scratch platform is coming up on 20th December 2019.
