Course Details

The Osteopathic Centre for Children is pleased to offer the ‘Advancing Your Osteopathic Skills in the Cranial Field Course’. Supported by the Rollin E Becker Institute, this is a very flexible 5 day course with participants having the option to book it in its entirety or as single days. This is an opportunity to advance skills, revise and improve cranial anatomy, learn, try alternative approaches and tailor a course to suit your own requirements. The course leaders will deliver some lectures but a lot of the learning will be in groups of 4 with a tutor to enable participants to explore, ask their own questions and work at their own level and pace. There will be a high practical content to enable participants to incorporate their new skills into practice.

The course leaders are Carole Meredith and Nick Woodhead, who between them have more than 80 years of teaching experience within the cranial field and are very competent at teaching at all levels.

If you are a beginner or an improver, then this is the course for you.

On the first three days, our emphasis will be on small group tutorial approach, rather than a lecture led delivery, as this will enable us to tailor the days to the individual participant’s needs. We aim to cater from complete beginner to people who want to advance or refresh their knowledge, skills and/or palpation.

The fourth day will primarily be a treatment-based day, to include: fascial and fluid techniques, intra oral work, and balanced ligamentous tension/treatment of peripheral joints - a guided treatment of a “patient”. We also plan to discuss “whiplash” patterns & treatment and the treatment of post-partum patients.

On the final day, we will continue with practical approaches to treating infants and children, adapting handholds, protocols (etc.) to younger patients; and discuss how treatment approaches might change with different age groups, allowing for aspects such as ossification, among others.

Cancellation Policy

The OCC/FPO reserves the right to postpone this course if circumstances change (due to the pandemic). Eventbrite’s processing fee is non-refundable, so in the event that the course is cancelled by the OCC/FPO, all fees (excluding Eventbrite’s fee) will be refunded.

Should circumstances mean that you have to cancel your place on this course, the OCC/FPO regrets to inform that no refunds can be given unless we are able to re-sell your place.

Please note, the OCC/FPO does not accept responsibility for any expense you incur (such as travel and accommodation costs), so please do consider this before registration.

COVID-19 Protocol

The OCC/FPO will comply with the guidance and the course must only take place where this is permissible in accordance with the UK Government, as relevant at the time of each course.

Participants should not attend training should they, or a member of their household, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have had symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Any person who has symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed in the premises. Participants must contact us if they, or a member of their household, tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of the course date. In this event, we will then notify all other participants of the situation and ask them to follow the appropriate Government guidance.

The layout of the room should ensure that social distancing is respected by all persons in the training room during non-practical exercises. All participants will have their temperature checked before entering the room.

Adequate PPE and hand-washing facilities will be available. This will include disposable masks and/or visors, disposable aprons, disposable gloves, hand sanitizer, paper bedroll, anti-viral surface spray/wipes.

We thank all participants for following the guidance and helping us protect our community by adhering to the safety measures put in place according to government guidance.
