Description

Liz Lochhead, Scotland’s former national poet and recent recipient of the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry weaves a spellbinding and beguiling mix of poems and monologues, accompanied by the witty, soulful saxophone of Steve Kettley.

Liz Lochhead studied Drawing and Painting at the Glasgow School of Art where she began to write seriously. Her first book of poetry, Memo for Spring, was published in 1972 and sold 5,000 copies. She published her first theatre work in 1978, and famously caused a sensation at the Edinburgh Festival in 1987 with her play Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off. Almost 30 years later, Liz has gone from success to success, appointed Scots Makar in 2010.

Tonight’s performance is based on the duo’s hit Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, showcasing some of Liz’s best work over the past 45 years, including from her most recent collections A Choosing and 2016’s Fugitive Colours.

‘An inspirational force in British poetry. Funny, feisty, full of feeling, a fantastic performer’ (Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate).
‘Brilliant, raucous and scabrously funny’ (Sunday Times).
‘Funny, frank and frisky’ (Scotsman).

[Due to the nature of some of the material, we recommend that the show is suitable for children over the age of 12 years]
