Event description

Description

Bloody heck! For everything you never knew you needed to know about periods, there’s #periodpositive science comedian and sex educator Chella Quint. As heard on BBC Radio 4’s A Bleeding Shame and Woman’s Hour, Chella joyfully deconstructs menstrual stigma with wit, craftivism and brute force, uses song and dance to challenge period poverty, and joyfully invites audiences to hang ten on a crimson wave in this five-star show. Delightfully taboo-breaking period comedy for menstruators and non-menstruators of all genders.
It will be a relaxed performance in an accessible venue.

“This shouldn’t just be at the Fringe, it should be on the curriculum.” - Three Weeks
“Funny and endearing ... a clever comic.” - Broadway Baby
"Taboo-busting funny girl Chella Quint is proof that being passionate about science is cool.” - WI Life

Comedian and activist Chella Quint is coming to Manchester to perform her award-winning sell-out comedy show, alongside a workshop of hands-on activities including crafts and jewellery making, and a launch of Chella's new research project That Bloody Think Tank, which will include citizen science, data hacking and discussion.

This event is supported by funding from Manchester City Council, as part of their International Women's Day programme.

  • Interested in data science/data representation? We'll be collecting data on periods, and you can join our data hacking to produce interesting results and visualisations
  • Want to help bust menstrual taboos? Make yourself a STAINS™ period-themed necklace, keyring, badge or pair of earrings to wear wherever you go, and spread the word
  • Stitch yourself a decorated reusables bag to store and carry your menstrual products in style
  • Support short and long term solutions to period poverty
  • Do you work with young people, in schools or elsewhere? Come and chat to Chella about how you can support people in their first experiences of menstruating through the #periodpositive schools charter
  • Do you have questions about menstruation? We'll provide a supportive atmosphere for discussion, questions and general chat with menstruators and non-menstruators of all genders.

We'll also have our usual Girl Geek Tea Party tea/coffee and cake, included in your ticket cost. We'll be in the Kanaris Lecture Theatre on the top floor of the Manchester Museum (accessible by lift).

We will be collecting donations of menstrual products, both disposable and re-usable (including pads, liners, tampons, cloth pads, period pants and menstrual cups) to be distributed to schools to create menstrual product kits for teachers and exam invigilators this spring. These will be collected by the #periodpositive schools project that Chella Quint will talk about at the event.

That Bloody Think Tank is the new menstruation research wing of #periodpositive. Aiming to provide an alternative to research conducted by menstrual product companies, That Bloody Think Tank encourages citizen science to find out more about periods and menstrual taboos.
