About our Speaker Dr Grant McAree

Dr Grant McAree. Accepted to study dentistry in 1992 after qualifying from podiatry college. Having never studied any sciences, A level or O level, found the course relatively challenging. Building a squat chiropody business to help finance his way through dental school, he managed to qualify in 1997. Setting up his first surgery in 1999, 15 months after vocational training. Not having any knowledge of business or financial backing bought a 5 bedroom house on the main street in Plymouth. Marketing the business in the "old ways" set up another 5 surgery next to it 2 years later. Becoming bored, there were many other businesses he set up during his years in Plymouth, from beauty, chiropody and recruitment. In 2001 the Dr Grant brand was developed and setting up another squat in Topsham. After a few years as his children grew more independent, set up another squat surgery on the main street of Exeter. 3 years later he amalgamated the two businesses in to one and re branded again. 2015 S&M Leads was created. A bespoke firm that helps dentists start up squats and advertise on the social media platforms. For now, he is content learning how to develop clever marketing strategies, continuing to grow his brand and ensure his business stays ahead in this challenging digital era.On attending day one of IAS orthodontics course, the lecturer said “some of you will make this a part of your business others won’t” 24 months later Grant is the "number one" user for IAS academy globally and now is a full time dentist with a special interest in Orthodontics. Ignoring the strict interviewing processes to appear on the Sensodyne Television Adverts, Grant e mailed the head of GlaxoSmithKline advising him that he was a better actor than Tom Cruise and they should consider him for the part. 2012, 2013 Grant was the Sensodyne Dentist coining the phrase "when it's gone it's gone" Ranking 3rd on Ad-watch, as one of the most memorable adverts of the year. 2018 Grant set up the Facebook group "Marketing and advertising tips for dentists by dentists" With nearly 4,000 members from all over the world, his main interest is still his wife and family, living in Devon and occasionally catching some waves.
