Event description

Description

12 May 2020

Do you need new ideas on how to recruit much-needed volunteers and trustees, including those with expert skills? Or maybe you would like advice on your volunteer programme which will help with volunteer retention?

At our one-to-one Advice Plus appointments, we can give you advice on volunteer recruitment and management, answering any specific questions you may have or offering general advice which is tailored to your charity or community group. We will also signpost you to other resources and organisations which could help and, if appropriate, introduce you to other local charities.

Following the one hour session, we will send a list of the resources which were discussed in the Advice Plus session to help you put your plan into action. We will also agree a date to follow up with you to review progress and give further support if needed.

Here are some examples of areas discussed during previous advice sessions:

  • Setting up a volunteering programme (ie being ‘volunteer-ready’)

  • Volunteering strategy and policies

  • Volunteer recruitment/management/retention

  • Volunteer induction and training

  • Safeguarding and DBS

  • Legal issues

  • Trustee recruitment, including succession planning and achieving Board diversity.

Endorsements:

  • “I see Community Impact Bucks as an organisation which provides very good knowledgeable advice across a great range of fields. For me it has been all about volunteering and the support I’ve got on that has been brilliant. Community Impact Bucks is my go-to place for advice on volunteering.”

  • “Hazel had researched so well into the kind of advice I would need. I thoroughly appreciate this concern and effort.”

  • “Thank you for your time yesterday. I found it very useful and am excited about all the places we may have to find volunteers. I will look at the information and also work on getting proper roles defined…”

  • “I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you so much for your guidance and for the wealth of information you supplied me with, it really has been very useful. Thanks again for your time and for your support while we get our volunteer programme developed.”

Who should attend?

These sessions are for voluntary and community groups already delivering services in Buckinghamshire as well as those looking to set up new charities, community groups or social enterprises.

Who you will be meeting

Hazel Finney, Lead for Volunteering at Community Impact Bucks, has extensive experience of supporting mainly small and medium-sized organisations in Buckinghamshire (voluntary/community organisations, and social enterprises) with their volunteer and trustee recruitment and management. Hazel volunteers with the Association of Volunteer Managers (AVM), an independent membership body that supports, represents and champions people in volunteer management in the UK.

For further guidance and top tips, go to Volunteering.

We do expect people to honour their appointments, or to give us adequate notice should a group be unable to attend. We operate a reserve list and can sometimes offer cancelled appointments to someone else with advance notice.

Due to high demand, we regret that we are unable to see a representative from an organisation more than once in a 12-month period.
