'Advising with Conviction' Workshop - multiple dates

 

 

 ‘Advising with Conviction’ is a full-day workshop designed to provide front-line practitioners and advisors with a well-rounded knowledge of how to support individuals with their criminal records and disclosing them to others.

 

This workshop is endorsed by the Probation Institute and endorsed by the Institute of Employability Professionals.

 

Objective

To be more confident in providing accurate and effective advice and support to people with convictions on if, what, when and how to disclose.

 

Who’s it for?

Supporting practitioners who are either advising or supporting people with convictions into employment, volunteering and education.

 

What does it cover? 

It provides an overview of the following areas (these can be tailored when delivered in-house)

  • About Unlock / Why is this important?
  • Types of criminal record checks and what they disclose
  • Understanding criminal records
    • How clients can find out about their criminal record
    • Establishing what’s ‘spent’ under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
    • Establishing what’s ‘filtered’ from standard and enhanced DBS checks
  • Legally, need to disclose?
  • To disclose or not to disclose?
  • When & how to disclose? [in brief]
  • The role of self-disclosure statements [in brief]

 

Registration from 9am. The session will start promptly at 9.30am and finish at 4.45pm. 

 

Tea & coffee will be available on arrival and morning and afternoon breaks. Please note that lunch will not be provided.

 

This course has been developed with practitioners in mind. If you are an employer, HR professionl or recruiter, please check out our 'Employing with Conviction' training.

 

We can also provide workshops to university admissions professionals to help them develop policies and practices that assist them in dealing fairly with applicants who have a criminal record.

What's the refund policy?

 

Unfortunately no refunds are allowed. Transfer to an alternative workshop may be possible up to two weeks in advance of the training date. After that period no transfers will be allowed. Substitutions are allowed at any time, just let us know and we will arrange for a ticket to be sent to the new attendee.

 

Please ensure that you purchase the correct ticket type. We reserve the right to cancel your booking and refund your purchase if the wrong ticket type is purchased. You are then welcome to re-purchase the correct ticket type at the correct price. Unlock - for people with convictions

Unlock is an independent, award-winning charity for people with convictions which exists for two simple reasons. Firstly, we assist people to move on positively with their lives by empowering them with information, advice and support to overcome the stigma of their previous convictions. Secondly, we seek to promote a fairer and more inclusive society by challenging discriminatory practices and promoting socially just alternatives. 

Our support for people with convictions includes a confidential peer helpline, an information hub, a disclosure calculator, an online forum and a web-based magazine.

We provide support to practitioners through training workshops, and work with employers, education providers, insurers and other organisations to improve their policies, processes and practices to help them to be able to safely and effectively deal with people who have convictions.
