About this event
The shift to a circular economy is essential for reducing embodied carbon in construction projects. This transition demands collective action to minimize resource extraction, decrease dependence on landfills and incineration, and preserve the inherent value of existing materials.
Since the structure of a building accounts for a significant proportion of its embodied carbon, embedding circular economy principles early in the design process is critical. Strategies such as design optimization and the careful specification of materials can play a vital role in lowering embodied carbon and delivering more sustainable, resource-efficient structures.
Sara Lonsdale and Matthew Efford from Buro Happold will be talking through circular economy and sustainable design principles from a structural perspective using examples such as Manchester Airport Terminal 2 and a recent steel reuse project in London.
There will be drinks and nibbles to start and the opportunity to ask questions to both of our speakers. Followed by a trip to the pub for people who make it that far.
