Event description

Description

What is an Areonautical Engineering Festival

The Festival is an opportunity for pupils and teachers to experience and learn about how new technologies can help enhance the teaching and learning of STEM subjects in the classroom. All Tablet Academy Learning Festivals have a strong focus on collaboration and pupils will work in their team alongside their teacher to solve a range of short 20 minute challenges. In this case of course all the challenges will be linked to aeronautical engineering.

The Festival moves at a fast pace and is hands-on from start to finish covering a range of activities designed by teachers and RAF STEM Ambassadors. The activities in most cases are easily replicable back in school* and are suitable for all pupils including gifted and talented and those from disengaged groups.

*may require investment in equipment.

Workshop Content: (May Vary)

Rocket Challenge - Can your pupils design and make a rocket ready for firing in 20 minutes? Take up the challenge and see if you can hit the target.

Minecraft Education Edition - Bringing Minecraft into the classroom to engage pupils in a Engineering challenge.

Acer CloudProfessor - Get to grips with the Internet of Things and cloud computing in real time with the Acer CloudProfessor

Virtual Reality - Pupils have the opportunity to experience Virtual Reality in a learning context.

Rocket Cars - Design and build a rocket car in 20 minutes, launch yours and see who's design travels the furthest.

Aircraft Taxiing - Can you program a robot to auto taxi planes from storage to the runway ready for take off?

The Details...

The Festival programme is as follows:

  • The day is split into two workshops, morning and afternoon, each lasting approximately 2.5 hours and covering the same content.

  • Up to 30 students take part in each session (60 total) accompanied by staff from the host school and visiting schools.

  • Ideally each school including the host will send groups of up to 5 students and 1 teacher to the morning or afternoon workshop.

  • The workshops are led by consultants from the Tablet Academy who will guide staff and students through the circuit of activities allowing pupils to learn and teachers to observe and learn as well.

What's the cost?

Tablet Academy are able to deliver these events for FREE! The hope is, by attending the festival teachers and pupils will be inspired and informed about how the solutions can help pupils with SEND learn more effectively and improve engagement, not just the STEAM and Computing curriculum but all subject areas.
