Aerosols, Clouds, Precipitation & Climate Workshop (13-15 April 2016)
Event Information
Description
The Aerosols, Clouds, Precipitation and Climate (ACPC) initiative by iLEAPS and GEWEX has been established to facilitate and enable international and interdisciplinary research on the interactions between aerosols, clouds and precipitation in the climate system.
ACPC has recently initiated a series of modelling studies in support of observational box closure experiments towards a better quantitative understanding of aerosol-cloud-precipitation interactions. The aim of this workshop in Oxford is to discuss early results and the next steps.
Registration
Deadline for registration is 31 January 2016.
Programme
The programme for this workshop will be posted here.
Travel details
Oxford city centre and Oriel College are readily accessible by public transport from Heathrow (LHR) and London's other international airports:
The city is served by very regular buses from Heathrow and Gatwick airports, operated by the Oxford Bus Company. Oriel is a few moments from the High Street stop served by these buses, please tell the driver to stop at the Queens Lane/High Street exit (when they take your luggage and you will have to press the stop button when they announce the stop driving into Oxford).
Oxford railway station is reached in under an hour from London's Paddington Station, on services operated by First Great Western. There are plenty of taxis available at the railway station; the College is 15 minutes walk from the station.
We do not advise travelling by car to ACPC 2016. There is no parking available for delegates at the College, and little reasonably priced long-stay parking in the city centre. You should consider using the city's Park and Ride network.
More general information on travelling to Oxford University can be found here.
Accommodation
We have arranged a block booking en-suite rooms at Oriel College including high-speed internet and breakfast in hall at a rate of £63 (single) and £106 (twin): online reservations Deadline for reservations is 22 March 2016.
To check in, please just go to the main entrance of Oriel College (which, as most colleges in Oxford, has no sign but just its coat of arms with three lions, don't ask why it has always been like this) and register at the Porters Lodge on the left. The college is staffed 24/7 and at night there is a bell to alert the porters but if you plan to arrive after 23:00, please contact the organisers ahead.
Additionally, there are a number of excellent (but pricey) hotels adjacent to the College. These include the Eastgate Hotel and the Old Bank Hotel, both on Oxford's High Street.
Technical
Attendants will receive wifi-login at the registration and should have access throughougt most of Oriel College. If you stay in college you will also received credentials for wired high-speed ethernet in your room but please remember to bring an ethernet cable as the college cannnot provide those free of charge.
You may want to check if your university/institute provides credential to Eduroam, "a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community", which would allow you to use your Eduroam wireless login throughout college (in fact throughout most of the city as there is always a college or department around).
