AF Focus: The updated AQuA Book (guidance on producing quality analysis)

Cross-government, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)

The AQuA Book is Government guidance about how to produce robust, fit for purpose analysis. It's for all analysts, analytical managers and commissioners.

Ensuring analysis is of high quality is essential to making an impact. Analysis and the use of evidence informs every decision we make as civil servants. It also underpins the civil service values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality by which we are held to account.

The AQuA Book provides guidance on producing quality analysis, and is the first place to go to understand what high quality analysis looks like. Whilst it is particularly relevant to modelling, the underlying principles are relevant to all analysis.

The AQuA Book has recently been updated and this session will explain all the essential information about the content and how it will help you to ensure your analysis is of the highest quality.

Alec Waterhouse is an experienced operational researcher, data scientist, and Head of Energy, Infrastructure and Markets Analysis in DESNZ.

Alec, who was involved in the development of the original Aqua Book, and is lead on the current update, will cover topics including instilling a Quality Assurance Culture, guidance on proportionality and ensuring quality throughout the analytical life cycle (engagement, design, analysis, delivery and communication), as well as some wider relevant guidance.
