African Governments are providing enabling environments for development and investment opportunities to flourish. At this forum you will be able to hear, learn more, exchange views and engage directly with people in authority, decision makers, energy and infrastructure organisations and investors already on the ground doing business in some of these countries. You will exchange knowledge as to how you could be involved in these exciting developments, opportunities for investment and growing your business or influence.
Populations are growing and urbanisation seems to be spanning out of control. Over 13% of the world’s population currently lives in slums. With the rapid urbanisation of emerging market cities across the globe, this number is expected to reach almost 25% of the world’s population by 2030. Africa’s land mass of 30.22 million square kilometers compares favourably with other major economies (USA, China, India, France, UK, Germany and others) at 30.102 million square kilometers but in Saharan Africa alone there are expectations that as much as 76% of the projected 1.1 billion population will be living in slums by 2030 if current market conditions persists.
Housing demand is fast out spacing supply. Exacerbating this problem is the housing shortage for middle-low income individuals in emerging market cities. The most extreme example is Nigeria where a 17 million unit housing gap exists and is growing at a rate of 780,000 units annually. Enormous back logs also exist in other countries: Kenya over 2 million units, Uganda 1.6 million units, Ghana 1.2 million units, Zambia 1.3 million units and Rwanda 350,000 units.
It is the view of social policy analysts and experts that the ability to own and live in a decent and affordable home has drastically enhanced the health, social and economic wellbeing of people around the world. This forum will bring together great minds, leaders, experts and practitioners already in the field, investors, entrepreneurs, representatives from African/Commonwealth governments and others to explore these issues and the huge opportunities available to those who wish to do business in Africa.
