Event description

Description

'Considering the whole person in improving nutrition and health'

Join fellow RNutrs, ANutrs and nutrition students (on AfN accredited degrees) in the north west region for the AfN North West Regional Network Study Day on Saturday 9th March.

The study day will take the form of two half day workshops (delegates will attend both):

  • Making Sense of Social Justice in Lifestyle Change Conversations -
    Dr Lucy Aphramor RD

We work from the assumption that personal and population wellbeing means we need to teach compassion, address climate change and build a fairer world.

    This workshop will:

    · Explore the critical thinking skills relevant to these assumptions and those of social justice and public health nutrition.

    · Understand the basic physiology and discrimination and the concepts of lifeworld and the state of affairs in which the world is experienced.

    · Recognise different types of power

    · Understand how self-care and social justice are interlinked

    · Discover how a health-justice approach can influence nutrition-sensitive disease interventions

    · Make links between trauma, health, behaviours and social justice

    · Identify further resources

  • A Beginner's Guide to Intuititve Eating and The Non-Diet Paradign -
Dr Laura Thomas RNutr (Public Health)

Intuitive Eating is a process to help you get out of your head when it comes to food and body image and tune into the signals your body is sending.

    This workshop will:

    · Develop critical understanding of how a weight-focused paradigm might lead to unintended consequences

    · Discuss benefits of weight-inclusive paradigms and identify gaps in our understanding and future research directions

    · Define the theoretical constructs within intuitive eating and translation into practice

    · Build skills in hunger and satiety awareness, mindful eating and unconditional permission to eat using an intuitive eating journal

There will also be an opportunity to network will fellow delegates to make connections with others in your region.

A light lunch is included.
