Event description

Description

Tony Spencer, Exhibitions and Gallery Manager of leading contemporary gallery Aspex, will present an art talk alongside guest speakers. Together they will cover themes of tribal solidarity, existentialism, African culture identity, migration and integration.

Situated at Portsmouth Cathedral, guests will also have the opporunity to see Tony Spencer and Kye Wilson's video installation depicting a West African musician known as Spearman, located in the Container Project. Using visual arts and technology the installation creates an exchange of vibrant Gambian arts and culture by transporting audiences to Spearman’s home village.

The Container Project transforms a shipping container into an immersive project space for Journeys Festival International. Positioned outside Portsmouth Cathedral, the container is in the heart of Old Portsmouth, close to the waterfront. The space will host an oral story-telling exhibition from local migrants, provide a canvas for live graffiti painting, and play host to Spearman.
