Event description

Description

The African Society of Cambridge University (ASCU) will be hosting her sixth annual ‘Africa Together’ conference on Saturday, the 1st June 2019. The theme for this year’s edition of the conference is “Which Way Forward? Africa and The Global Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

The Conference: It proposes to minimize the rhetoric and to showcase the concrete ways in which African policymakers, business leaders, innovators, young people have responded to the call for sustainable action. Bringing together high-profile speakers and panelists from all over the world, the Conference will also confront complacent assumptions about Africa’s inability to meet the welfare aspirations of its citizens by showing how partnerships, science and technology, creative and innovative solutions as well as a willingness to engage women and other underrepresented groups are being leveraged all over the continent for real and measurable sustainable growth. As part of our confirmed Keynote speakers and panelists, we have HE Ameenah Gurib-Fakim - Fmr. President, Republic of Mauritius, Benny Dembitzer - Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Obum Ekeke - Head of Computing Education Programs, UK & Africa at Google, Ambassador Nonye Rajis - Fmr Nigerian Ambassador to Singapore, Biyi Bandele - award-winning filmmaker and director of Half of a Yellow Sun, just to mention a few. Please visit our website https://www.africatogether.org.uk/ for more information.

Lunch will be provided at the conference and an African ball follows afterward.

African Grand Ball: A great way to end an inspiring day is to have a fun-filled gala night as we celebrate our African Royalty and spiced with the Cambridge express of dinning and wining in one of the University's prestigious and beautiful colleges. The gala night will hold at the Dome, Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, home to Europe’s largest collection of women’s art. The evening will start with welcome drinks and then followed by dinner. This is a three-course meal with wine and coffee to finish, and featuring beautiful music.

Please see ticketing options for more details. Offers valid while stock lasts.
