About this event

Join chef and author Marie Mitchell and writer and author and Jamaican storyteller Dr Velma McClymont and Prophet Newton, founder of local business Ital Vital Herbs as they delve into the deep-rooted culinary ties between Africa and the Caribbean.

They will discuss how African ingredients and food traditions such as okra, yam, black eye peas, cassavas and plantain carried through the diaspora have shaped the Caribbean cuisine we know today.

Bring your memories of African and Caribbean food traditions, join in the conversation and sample some of the dishes being discussed.
