Tue 6 December 2016, 19:30 – 21:30 GMT
Granta Magazine and the Bisi Alimi Foundation invite you to a performance of
Africa’s Future Has No Space for Stupid Black Men by Pwaangulongii Dauod
performed by Bisi Alimi
The reading will be followed by a discussion on literature and the persecution of LGBT people in Nigeria.
Pwaangulonii Dauod, writing under a pseudonym, delivers a passionate elegy for his friend C-Boy. The essay gives a frank portrayal of the experience for LGBT people in Nigeria, where the maximum penalty for ‘same-sex sexual activity’ is fourteen years’ imprisonment. Bisi Alimi, a Nigerian gay rights activist forced to seek asylum in the UK in 2004, will perform the essay.
In association with the Bisi Alimi Foundation.
