This free event will begin with an open mic segment and culminate with a music set from Samiir featuring a mix of new and older songs/poems.
You can sign up for the open mic on the night or by selecting an OPEN MICER ticket. Performers are encouraged to share work related to the themes of Samiir’s EP.

The internet, social media, AI, bots, climate violence, colonialism, mining / minerals, capitalism, class, work, consumerism, liberation, revolution, protest, community.
ACCESSIBILITY:
BRIG Cafe is well-ventilated and has step-free access.
The cafe is within walking distance of all major train and bus routes in the city centre. Approximate distances are:
- Moor Street Station – 5 minutes
- New Street Station – 12 minutes
- Moor Street Interchange (all major Birmingham bus routes) – 7 minutes
If you are travelling by car, there are several pay and display car parks in the area, please be careful to pay any parking charges and avoid parking in the wrong place as clampers do operate near the cafe. Please note that BRIG Cafe does not own any parking spaces.
The cafe has a place to lock up bikes and air pumps for tyres.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Samiir Saunders is a multimedia poet and performance artist from Birmingham. Their work combines elements of spoken word poetry, UK rap, electronic, and punk. Samiir’s aim as an artist is to inspire curiosity, compassion, and radical imagination within audiences. Their lyricism is both sharp and vulnerable, often exploring themes of capitalism, technology, and the body.
afternoon, offline features a collection of heartfelt, playful, and rebellious spoken-word tracks over punky electronic beats. The EP explores Samiir’s struggle to retain a sense of self amidst the dehumanising forces of the gig economy, generative AI, and social isolation.
