This CYCJ webinar will provide an insight into the joint work of Police and Social Work agencies to develop a truly child-centred approach to the implementation of the Age of Criminal Responsibility (Scotland) Act, including joint operational guidance and training for police to support this significant change.
Sergeant Jim Devoy (Police Scotland, Rights and Justice Legislative Programme Team) and Sharon Glasgow (Social Work Professional Advisor, Age of Criminal Responsibility Implementation Team, Youth Justice and Children’s Hearing Unit , Scottish Government) will discuss why the age of criminal responsibility matters, the wider context in which it sits as part of children’s rights and the need for a collaborative approach from all public authorities to ensure we effectively protect and support children now and in the future.

About our speakers
Jim Devoy is a Sergeant with Police Scotland. Jim has specialised for a number of years in children’s rights and worked to develop a rights-based approach to policing for all children in Scotland. For the last couple of years he has been working as part of a small team in Police Scotland to support the implementation of a number of pieces of legislation, including the Age of Criminal Responsibility (Scotland) Act 2019.
Sharon Glasgow is a social worker with over 30 years’ experience currently working as Professional Social Work Adviser to Scottish Government within the Age of Criminal Responsibility Implementation Team. She worked for CELCIS at the University of Strathclyde establishing and leading the Protecting Children Programme. She has worked in Local Authority settings in strategic, training and operational roles, with an ambition to improve outcomes for children, families and communities, based on a rights respecting approach.
