Event description

Description

Age UK Bristol and Brunelcare invite you to join them for their first Research Forum event for 2018

Our topic of discussion for the afternoon will be:

End of Life, mortality, and burial practices play a significant role in the lives of older people, whether it is in relation to parents, friends or others or our own death.

Our Spring Research Forum explores these important issues.

We are pleased to welcome the following speakers to share their work with us:

Dr Naomi Woodspring (MA PhD), previously a Research Fellow at the University of the West of England - “Baby Boomers and Death”

This talk looks at a recent study conducted with people born between 1945 - 1955 and how the first wave of the baby boomers is approaching their own mortality. The longevity revolution has meant the possibility of an extended life span and how might that shape ideas of life but also death. Naomi’s latest book, Baby Boomers, Age and Beauty will be released in July 2018 (Emerald Press).

Janine Marriott, Public Engagement Manager, Arnos Vale Cemetery - “Cemeteries for the Living"

In our increasingly urbanised cities, green spaces are becoming scarcer. Most large cities have one or more Victorian Garden Cemeteries which are often neglected, full, and vandalised. But what if these precious green sites could become for the living, as well as the dead?

Nicky Studzinski, Lecturer, St Peter's Hospice - "End of Life”
